Rip Curl Australian Free Ride Pro Finals

Thursday 21 August: The weather cleared up long enough to finish off the finals of the Rip Curl Pro Australian Free Ride Champions on The Bluff over looking Thredbo Village today. The Bluff has always been a place to push the limits of skiing and boarding and today it was taken to another level as athletes punished the hill, taking air over rocks that have never been skied before. Rip Curl Throw Down

Wednesday 20 August: Whilst the gales blew on top of the mountain today, the athletes moved down to the village in the evening for the Rip Curl "Throw Down", a mixture of jumps, rails and hits that allowed for a myriad of creative moves to go down. We all finished off with a heap of Jim Beams at the after party and did a good job drinking it blue as the weather cleared for the final of the Rip Curl Pro Australian Free Ride Champions the following morning. Rip Curl Australian Free Ride Pro

19th August Thredbo: The Rip Curl Australian Free Ride Pro took place in perfect weather and snow conditions today. A man made and natural course down through and over rocks, a ridge and off The Bluff kept everyone honest in how well they can really ski and board.

A Mixed bag and a Close Call

Monday 18th August Perisher Blue: The weather couldn't make up its mind today. Stormy, followed by crystal blue, back to cloudy, to snowy and a clearing afternoon had me bouncing between Thredbo to Perisher. I eventually settled in at the Australian Half Pipe Championships at Perisher Blue to watch some of Australia's best skiers and boarders rip up the pipe. Heres a taste of what they were getting up to.

A Perfect Day!....Almost

Kosciuszko National Park, NSW: It has to be one of the best days of the year, no wind, crystal clear blue bird and thousands of skiers hit the resorts. It was time for snowboarders Russell Holt, Jon Jensen, Andrew Fawcett and telemarker David Inabinet to escape the weekend madness and ht the back country, dropping into lines off The Sentinal and Carruthers Peaks.

It was also a sad day as an ice climber was killed nearby in Blue Lake when an avalanche took him out and not far away at
